My son's laptop monitor hit the clean and I was going to try to back up locate a laptop for him. He is a true geek: college senior away from home with a tight plan taking 10 courses this semester engineering computers math and physics working and job hunting. The specs of his want to have laptop are:intel graphics _or_ in rare cases nVidia GO FIND cater DRAWpreferably 1400x900 or better resolution (not necessary if it's reely emit)2 hd slots would be nice but unnecessaryability to undergo 4GB ramas much cache as possible (looks desire 4Mb for intel. 1Mb for amd)lowest minimum processor speedno bundled OS (if possible)atheros chipset? (probably not going to happen intel 2200. 2915. 3945 etc should be fine)ability to regenerate cd with battery (really really want this)If possible he would desire to get a warranty (and extended warranty) that won't be negated if he changes the operating system or adds more ram at a later date. I never heard of replacing cd with battery. He told me that Dell and IBM makes a battery that you can put in the cd. Are there any other companies that make this?I'm looking for reliability and minimum/affordable cost. Since this tech knowledge is a bit above me especially shopping in laptop create. I'd appreciate any advice. I'm trying but I don't know where to mouth to be. It would be nice if there was a site with a check off list to place the above criteria in and see what matches. Thanks in AdvanceP. S. I just heard about this site so feature with me if I don't know my way around. I'll be approve.

Thanks masterjim. But unless I'm blind. I didn't change surface see a examine drive at that place to help me locate specific specs. Plus the two companies that I'm aware of that alter a battery to replace in CD weren't listed. Any other suggestions?
The most important part of the spec is missing: price. A 1440x900 display is going to cost extra. Few laptops take 2 hard drives. That ordain definitely add to cost weight and limit your choices. The priciest Intel processors consider 4MB of L2 cache. This will probably add about $150. An extra battery to replace the optical drive will also add to the be. I'm guessing at least an extra $100. Hardly any computers ship without an operating system. Manufacturers get such a huge reject on volume Windows licenses that change surface if you were to get a system without it you wouldn't deliver more than a few bucks. Extended warranties are also pretty expensive. Standard is 1 year. Going up to 3 could add several hundred dollars. Your son has expensive high-end tastes. A bargain-basement laptop won't meet any of these needs.
