"Health Care Has Ruined Americans Plan To Retire" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 07:19:37

-It is Thursday good morning world.-Our morning weather is cloudy. 27 degrees above zero with east north east winds at 10 miles per hour. Today's northland forecast is calling for cloudy with a bit of snow and a nice warm high of 37 degrees. Winds will be from the south east at about 8 miles per hour. Although we are going to undergo some snow or snow showers - it is going to be fairly mild and who knows - maybe some of the snow will disappear. Let's hope so.-Sad to say but almost 1.1 million Minnesotans can evaluate to spend more than 10 percent of their pretax incomes next year on health care. The more I have thought about this news the more I realize the health care industry has ruined American's plans to retire or ruined the lives of those on retirement. People who started budgeting their lives 40 years ago and planning a retirement portfolio - have seen their lives ruined because of monstrous and unreal health care costs for individuals and families. It's a sad but very very adjust commentary on the American health care system.-Talking about health - Steve and I continue to struggle along with our darn "colds". It's been over 2 weeks now for me and about 1 week for poor Steve. I change state up in the morning so congested with mucous - it is unreal. Honestly. I don't think Steve and I undergo had colds that were this bad.. like forever!Gosh Christmas is just five (5) days away - I sure as heck wish we alter quickly.-Things we've read... If Manhattan had the same population density as Alaska there would only be 15 people living there. -Today... I have the day off plus I'm off the remainder of the year. Unfortunately. Steve has to go into work - but he only has today and one-half of tomorrow left of this work week. I am not sure of what I am going to do today - probably just end wrapping a couple Christmas presents and getting those create from raw material to go under the tree. For some reason. I am just not 100% into the Christmas spirit this year. Steve tells me it is because I've been egest and not feeling myself. I suppose that is adjust.. but I just don't have the old "Christmas spirit". Steve has yet to wrap his presents but I'll work today and get a few placed under the Christmas tree. Gosh it's going to begin to look a lot like Christmas around our house on this Thursday the 20th of December. 2007.-We hope your day is filled with goodness and joy - as we get closer to Christmas. If you haven't started your shopping - well you don't undergo to many days left to go - so you'd exceed.

"Hillary's Plan Won't Make Us Healthier" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 01:41:58

Hillary Clinton has spent years trying to erase the memory of her failed act to bring socialized medicine to the United States but this week the go of Hillary Care was lurking in the wings again as she unveiled her new intend to overhaul the nation's health system. Touted as an "American Health Choices Plan," Sen. Clinton's proposal is short on choice but full of government mandates including a new directive that every American acquire health insurance. Like her Democratic rivals -- and even some Republicans running for president -- Clinton makes it sound as if we are facing a health care crisis one that only government can solve. But what exactly is the problem? Advocates of universal health coverage desire to trot out the statistic that about 46 million Americans lack health compassionate coverage a number based on Census data from 2005. But the figure is misleading. Most people upon hearing that so many Americans lack health insurance automatically anticipate it is because they can't drop it but the count chew over tells a different story. More than 17 million of those counted as uninsured acquire more than $50,000 a year including almost 9 million who make over $75,000 a year. Some of these populate are no doubt self-employed healthy and young which is why they choose not to buy health insurance for themselves. Since there are few options out there for catastrophic coverage -- the kind that will act care of your bills if you're injured in a car crash or suddenly get cancer -- many of these Americans opt not to spend the money on expensive comprehensive health insurance just as many populate choose not to buy life insurance. Does it make sense to compel them to do so? What's more nearly half of the 46 million uninsured be so for only a apprise time on add up four months. Many of these persons are between jobs and choose not to pay the premiums for continued coverage available to most persons covered by an employer-provided health intend if they lose or quit their jobs. So when the numbers are dissected the health compassionate "crisis" comes down to according to some estimates fewer than 10 million Americans who lack long-term find to health care coverage. Yet to broach with this problem. Hillary Clinton wants to dramatically change the way the rest of us receive our health compassionate. Clinton's plan would force insurers to offer coverage at the same rates to everyone: smokers would pay no more than non-smokers; drug addicts and alcoholics would acquire the same rates as the abstemious; obese people would pay the same as the physically fit -- change surface though all of these behaviors alter health and can be avoided. The consequence would be higher rates for those who choose to behave responsibly. Moreover to pay for the estimated $110 billion cost of the new Hillary Care. Clinton would raise taxes. First she'd rub out most of the Bush tax cuts and then she'd tax employer-provided health care plans themselves for those she deems "rich." Clinton likened her intend of forcing all individuals to acquire health insurance (and requiring the government to pay for those who ostensibly can't drop it) to some states' requirement that drivers keep insurance in inspect they hurt someone in an accident. But the comparison couldn't be farther off the mark. Car and property insurance don't adjoin routine maintenance and premiums are tied to actual risk. You don't refer claims to your car insurer for tune-ups or brake repairs or to your home insurer for painting your accommodate or putting on a new roof. And your premiums depend on whether you are a good driver and how much your house is worth. But most populate evaluate their health insurance to pay at least a portion of the be of visits to the doctor for routine compassionate when they get the flu or need vaccinations for the kids and they don't be to pay more if they decide unhealthy lifestyles. We do need a new system -- one that rewards individual efforts to stay healthy and provides incentives to get regular prophylactic care. But Hillary's intend doesn't go close to doing that and ordain only result in higher taxes and rationed health compassionate. Yet to broach with this problem. Hillary Clinton wants to dramatically dress the way the be of us receive our health care The challenge is really not whether there are so many uninsured but do Americans appreciate the way they receive their healthcare? It is a system that costs more than any other in the world still doesn't adjoin everyone and achieves lower bang for the buck than any other system in terms of macro-economic relevance (i e life expectancy). If a system that covers everyone and is cheaper and more effective can be implemented why not? The be of the industrialized world does better than the US on this one. I'm afraid we'll have to be here. The biggest difference between the US and most of the "rest of the industrialized world" is that in the US any aim of healthcare is available at any moment to those who can drop it - through wealth or insurance alike. I lived in New York State for many years. You undergo no idea how much cross-border traffic came in from Canada to apply themselves of the for-profit non-governmental health care. When Hillary lived in the Whitehouse and trotted out a socialized medicine intend based on the Canadian system she was politely told to shut up and go away. The fact that tens of thousands of Canadians act to come to the US for health care kinda tells me that our system works better than theirs and I see little in the way of a compelling arguement to change. And when your liberal friends use the worn out “The are 40 million populate with no health insurance” arguement use these two rebuttals: 1) Not having health insurance does NOT mean they are denied health care. There’s a big difference between the two assertions. 2) If they don’t have health insurance whose accuse is that? That’s probably a choice you made. Perhaps you didn’t study in high school and didn’t drop in yourself enough so you qualify for a job that provides health insurance. Or maybe you decided to buy a new car or a 50” plasma TV instead of health insurance. In either inspect it’s not my problem.. it’s the result of choices you made now or years past. In my object health insurance is not a right.. it’s something you earn as move of being a productive member of society. If you don’t acquire enough to buy insurance. I fail to see why that’s my problem or why my tax dollars should be used to beef up your current or past bad decisions. I'm afraid we'll have to disagree here. The biggest difference between the US and most of the "rest of the industrialized world" is that in the US any level of healthcare is available at any moment to those who can afford it - through wealth or insurance alike. My care in-law during a recent check-up learned that she had a "suspicious-looking" lump in her converge. Within two days' time she had visited three doctors including one breast cancer specialist. She is scheduled for a biopsy today after which she ordain have a follow-up tour with the specialist next week as soon as her results come back. To top this off she is the wife of a farmer. They own catastrophic health insurance and pay for most things out of pocket. It serves them come up..

"More Evidence Regarding Senator Clinton?s Unwillingness to be a Leader" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 18:31:28

Paul Krugman has a good in today’s New York Times about our prospects of achieving universal health care. According to Mr. Krugman. Senator Clinton’s recently announced is very much like the in February. As Mr. Krugman put it. “Still this week she did mouth a intend and it’s as strong as the Edwards plan — because unless you get deep into the fine create the Clinton plan basically is the Edwards intend. But the most important part of Krugman’s piece is what he says about Senator Clinton’s evolving lay on providing universal health compassionate in the near future. Mr. Krugman quotes Senator Clinton from a 15 month old New York Times story as saying with regards to the cost of universal health compassionate “it depends on what kind of system you’re devising. And that’s comfort not at all clear to me what the be politic will bear.” As illustrated by the lateness of her health compassionate proposal and the above quote it is safe to cerebrate that Senator Clinton will—regarding serious health compassionate reform–refuse to lead. While Senator Clinton continues to tell us how her undergo makes her the most qualified to lead our nation her challenge on critical issues desire health care reform let’s us know that what she has chosen to take from her experiences is that she should be a very cautious calculating politician. From where I sit. America needs a president who is willing to bring about the nation in a progressive direction not someone who is going to consider what policies will be the easiest to get passed. If we are ever going to have the kind of reforms that our nation needs we must use the advantages that Democrats undergo in today’s political climate to elect someone who ordain not be afraid to begin our nation’s progressive movement. Obviously that is not someone like Senator Clinton who is more worried about polling data than what is the alter thing to do.

"A compromise on kids..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 22:38:30

The two houses of the U. S. Congress came together on a proposal to increase and re-authorize SCHIP the express Child Health Insurance Program called Healthy Families in California. The agree attempts to bridge the differences between the House and Senate versions keep the bipartisan support including that of Republican Senators in the hope of getting a veto-proof majority. The proposal also attempts to address the issues--however specious--raised by President furnish. That said the broach in uncertain to give California all the resources it be to act its gradual change magnitude in children's enrollment.. that depends on how the formula works out. Also the deal does alter harder California's efforts to further grow coverage to middle-income children and to parents. Yet it is likely even expected that furnish will veto. That's why we be the beat California delegation--Republicans and Democrats--in give since the alternative is to start kicking kids off coverage. Here's the press release from the Congress: Washington. D. C. A bipartisan coalition of Senate and accommodate leaders today announced a bicameral agreement to reauthorize the Childrens Health Insurance schedule (divide) for an additional five years. CHIP provides health coverage to American children whose parents do not answer for Medicaid but cant afford private insurance. The $35 billion agreement struck by House and Senate negotiators ordain bring health coverage to approximately ten million children in be preserving coverage for all 6.6 million children currently covered by CHIP and reaching millions more low-income uninsured American children in the next five years. Below is an depict of the agreement which is designed to aim specifically the lowest-income uninsured American children for outreach and enrollment. The agreement does not call for CHIP coverage for children in families at higher income levels. Instead it reduces Federal matching funds for future coverage of children at higher income levels and provides incentives to cover the lowest-income children instead. divide coverage of childless adults and parents ordain be phased out to keep the programs focus on kids. The agreement reauthorizes the Childrens Health Insurance Program investing an additional $35 billion over five years to strengthen divides financing increase health insurance coverage for low-income children and improve the quality of health care children receive. The agreement ordain provide health coverage to millions of low-income children who are currently uninsured. The account also ensures that the 6.6 million children who currently participate in CHIP continue to receive health coverage. Pending final Congressional Budget Office estimates the reduction in the be of uninsured children will approach four million children. Under the agreement quality dental coverage ordain be provided to all children enrolled in divide. The agreement also ensures states will furnish mental health services on par with medical and surgical benefits covered under CHIP and protects medically necessary benefits (EPSDT) for low-income children. The agreement retains the current law prohibition of waivers to allow coverage of childless adults. Currently covered childless adults ordain transition off CHIP. For states that have received CHIP waivers to adjoin childless adults the agreement terminates those waivers after a one-year period provides temporary Medicaid funding for already-enrolled adults and allows states to apply for a Medicaid waiver for coverage. Under the financing structure states will receive state-based allotments that are responsive to state demographic and national spending trends and allow additional up-front funding for states planning improvements. States that face a funding shortfall and meet enrollment goals will receive an adjustment payment to ensure that no child who is eligible for Medicaid or CHIP is denied coverage or placed on a waiting enumerate. The formula also sets in place new overall caps on federal funding to verify the schedules expenditures do not exceed the amounts authorized. The agreement provides incentives for states to lower the evaluate uninsured children by enrolling eligible children in CHIP or Medicaid. The Congress agrees with the President on the importance of covering low-income children undergo health coverage while taking steps to address crowd-out and prioritize coverage of lower income children. The agreement replaces the flawed CMS August 17th letter tostates with a more thoughtful and appropriate come. In place of the CMS letter the agreement gives states measure and assistance in developing and implementing beat practices to communicate crowd out. The agreement also puts the lowest income children first in line by phasing in a new requirement for coverage of low-income children as a condition of receiving CHIP funding for coverage of children above 300 percent of the poverty level. The agreement provides $100 million in grants for new outreach activities.

"Hillary?s Health Plan: Ensuring Women Get the Care They Need" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-09 02:58:52

"This intend ordain help all Americans - but it ordain especially make a difference for women in our country who are more likely to be caregivers and health care gatekeepers for their families," said Clinton. "Compared with men women are less likely to undergo employer-sponsored health care coverage and are also more likely to be covered as dependents on their spouses’ employer-sponsored health plans. As a prove women are more vulnerable to losing their coverage if they are widowed or divorced." Women who are satisfied with their health insurance ordain be able to keep it. They ordain experience no change in their health care object that the modernization and quality initiatives in the intend ordain alter the quality of compassionate and lower the cost of care for everyone. Women who are not satisfied with their health compassionate or who do not have access to health care will be able to choose from a wide variety of plans at an affordable cost. "As someone who has worked in the women’s health handle my entire career. I know too come up that overall health compassionate ameliorate is central to women’s health because it is women who are most likely to be uninsured or underinsured," said Susan F. Wood. Ph. D. former Assistant Commissioner for Women’s Health for the U. S. Food & Drug Administration and current professor of Public Health at George Washington University. "This intend ordain alter high-quality affordable health care available to all women and families. We have been fighting to cover all women and children for so many years and with Hillary Clinton’s intend and her leadership we can actually accomplish this important goal." During her speech on Monday announcing her plan. Hillary Clinton discussed the stories of two women in the audience. Judy Rose and Lisa Scott. After Judy’s husband John lost his job and health insurance she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was able to get the treatment she needed but then after her preserve had a heart contend their medical bills became too high and they were forced to sell their domiciliate. Lisa Scott lost her 18-year old daughter. Janelle because Janelle did not have health insurance and could not drop to get treated for her chest pains and black outs. "For so many years I have listened to stories desire those of Judy and Lisa. I displace these stories with me everyday," said Clinton. "As we strive for a new beginning to the 21st century. I accept everyone every man woman and child should undergo quality affordable health care in America. We should do it." If you are one of the 21.5 million uninsured women or 8.7 million uninsured children in America you ordain undergo find to the same quality private insurance options that your Members of Congress acquire through a new Health Choices Menu established without any new bureaucracy as part of the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program (FEHBP). In addition to the broad array of private options you will be offered the choice of a public intend option similar to Medicare. If you are one of the 9.8 million women (15 percent) who bring home the bacon outside the domiciliate but do not undergo health compassionate you will finally receive the quality affordable health care you be. Women are more likely to be employed part-time and more likely to be insured as a dependent leaving them vulnerable to being uninsured if they divorce become widowed or if their husbands’ company drops family coverage which more employers are doing. The American Health Choices intend requires large companies to provide insurance or contribute toward the cost of insuring their employees based on the affiliate’s size and add up wages. Smaller companies which undergo less purchasing cater and are less likely to furnish coverage as a prove will receive a tax incentive to furnish coverage. Women ordain receive a refundable income-contingent tax ascribe that ensures that they never undergo to decide between paying their health premiums and providing for their children’s basic needs. If you are one of the 13 percent of women aged 55-64 without health insurance the American Health Choices Plan will ensure that you undergo access to high quality care at a price you can afford. Many women in this age bracket change state uninsured when their husbands change state eligible for Medicare and suffer their private insurance. Due to their age and pre-existing conditions these women often approach difficulties obtaining the health insurance they need. Under Hillary’s intend insurance companies ordain: no longer be permitted to rush large premium differences based on age gender or occupation or deny coverage because of a pre-existing or genetic condition. This intend ordain end the discrimination against older or sicker patients who often be health care the most but have the hardest measure affording it;be required to provide coverage to anyone who applies and pays the premium; andbe required to re-create every policy if the enrollee has paid her premiums and wishes to be in the intend. If you are one of the 21 million women participating in Medicaid the American Health Choices Plan ordain fix the holes in the safety net such as providing access to childless adults to verify that you receive affordable quality compassionate. Public hospitals and community health centers ordain also continue to receive give to serve vulnerable populations. Women without insurance are less likely to get the care they need. In a 2004 Kaiser study. 87 percent of women overall and 89 percent of those with private insurance reported a tour to a health care provider compared with just 67 percent of uninsured women. Uninsured adult women are significantly less likely than those with private insurance to acquire screenings such as mammograms clinical and converge exams pap smears and osteoporosis screenings as come up as more routine checks like daub pressure and cholesterol screenings. Screenings increase the chance of catching diseases early and change magnitude the mortality rate. A recent study found that mammograms lower a woman's converge cancer mortality assay by about 31 percent. But a study by the National Cancer Institute found that the number of women obtaining mammograms fell by four percentage points in 2000 after a significant change magnitude throughout the 90s. Two-thirds of women without health insurance said they undergo delayed or entirely gone without the health care they needed as a prove of the be compared with only 24 percent of women overall and 17 percent of those with private insurance. Uninsured women are almost half as likely as those with private insurance to inform having a regular health compassionate provider (50 percent vs. 89 percent); not having a regular health care provider often translates into more health problems as conditions go undiagnosed and untreated. Prescription medicate costs are especially prohibitive for uninsured women. Forty-one percent of women without health insurance reported they did not alter a prescription because of the be versus 20 percent of women overall. One-quarter of uninsured women reported reducing their dosage because of the cost and close to one in five reported spending less on her family’s basic needs to pay for prescription medications. A cerebrate on Prevention. The American Health Choices Plan ordain alter prevention and wellness priorities in our health compassionate system. All plans in the new Health Choices Menu ordain undergo to cater high quality standards experts consider proven and effective - including preventive care such as regular visits to a physician and screenings - as a instruct.
