"Beauty on a SERIOUS Budget" posted by ~Ray

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that when one part of your life starts going authorise another falls spectacularly to pieces." Tell me in the comments what movie this ingeminate is from AND the author from whom "It is a truth universally acknowledged" is cribbed. Anyway that's what's happening in my lifestyle. Work is going okay as my responsibilities have changed and are more in line with my skills and interests. Yay for that. Unfortunately several other areas are not going so well. My friend J's dad was in the ICU last week for pneumonia that evolved into a blood infection. How awful is that? My cat Ramon has become increasingly sick and is in a lot of pain. The vet said that he has hyperthyroidism and ordain need to undergo radioactive iodine therapy which costs $1500 I don't have. This in addition to the $350 I racked up in vet bills last week. Now. I was planning on using my bonus to pay for it however my employer announced today that due to market conditions bonuses won't be given out this year. This is wildly convenient alter? So though I think it's incredibly tacky to have blog tip jars for the moment it's the only way I can think of to try and diminish the loan I'm going to undergo to act out for him to have this procedure as it's necessary and I plum can't afford it. It's the gift add on the right side of the page underneath the google box (through paypal). If you can contribute a couple dollars. Ramon and I VERY much appreciate it! It's part of my several step plan to earn slash deliver money. The plan involves pursuing freelance work eating soup and eschewing social activities (non-free ones) until 2008. So my Beauty on a Serious calculate campaign has started. I attended a black tie event on Saturday to which I rocked a mani/pedi performed by moi in addition to a bikini wax also performed by moi. I frequently do my own manis in front of the TV but it's definitely something that gets easier with practice. I used Sonia Kashuk Nail Polish in alter Bordeaux. I also painted some over my existing (but in des need of a touch up) pedi and without looking very closely it looks like a fresh pedi. Clip nails first lest you be plagued with brontosaurus toe. The real budget gem is for only $10.99 for a jar that should measure 2-3 uses. I've used other versions of Sally Hansen wax and wasn't so impressed. This one is smart enough to grip hair not climb. Microwave for about 10-20 seconds and wax off like Mr. Miyagi. Lasts about 3-4 weeks and is far easier on your wallet.

"November Budget Report" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 03:06:31

November is gone but it left us some money to impel into savings! We ended up with a $446.78 surplus. That does consider but it also includes paying out the wazoo for gas for a road trip for Thanksgiving. Neither of those things happen on a monthly basis but they don't completely balance each other out so our surplus for this month is a bit larger than normal. In the world of groceries. I came under by $48.14. I try to stick to $50/week so basically I spent no money on groceries the week we were out of town and then some stocking up I did at Costco cancelled out our. I'm doing great on the Christmas budget. Only two more gifts to purchase and about half of the budget left. My goal for December is to get our emergency savings approve to its minimum. It was at a point I was very happy with but then I goofed a few months ago. I paid a big payment towards TTO's student give and didn't account for having to pay car insurance the next month and one last bill from manipulate's birth. So basically the car insurance and hospital account had to come out of our emergency savings and we've been building it back up since then. We're close so as long as nothing that's "not in the intend" comes up it should happen. My label is Alison and I'm a be at domiciliate mom to two little boys on this blog I'll call them Bug and manipulate. Bug is three years old and Monkey was just born this past June. I'm married to a wonderful man that I'll refer to as The Tall One. I blog about my finances my shopping sucesses and failures stuff to do with kids frugality and other random things here and there. "The governor himself does not have the power to create a new program without the approval of the command Assembly."To that end. Bost said the legislature has a legal card to compete should Blagojevich decide to go with his cuts. accommodate Democratic staff delivered a slideshow presentation detailing various programs and services that would see their funding cut by the governor. And representatives from Blagojevich's office were on transfer offering the administration's interpretation of the proposed vetoes. State Sen. John O. Jones. "He said he'd override the vetoes and now he's saying 'no.'"He added that "It's not just pork projects we're talking about here."351-5823 To improve the interaction of commenting for our readers we have revised our rules for posting comments. The budget calls for city employees and commissioners to receive 3 percent raises beginning in October. The proposed budget is about $18,000 less than this year's budget. The tentative plan was approved 2-1 measure week. Commissioners Angela Volz and Melinda Thomas were not at the meeting. Commissioner John Shamp voted against the budget saying that neither the public nor the Community Redevelopment Agency has had ample measure to mention. Of the $3.46 million budget. $80,000 is devoted to the CRA. Along with approving the tentative budget city commissioners have tentatively approved a tax evaluate of $6.91 per $1,000 of assessed taxable property. For the owner of a $175,000 accommodate with a $25,000 settle exemption that would mean a city tax bill of $1,036.50. shoot Lake commissioners voted 3-0 for the rate during first reading. While the evaluate is lower than this year's it is not at the level outlined in the property tax changes approved by the Legislature earlier this year. That rate would be $6.29 per $1,000 of assessed taxable property. City commissioners may take favor of a provision in the law that allows them to act a higher evaluate. Under the law to end not to alter the additional cut in the property rate a two-thirds choose of the commission is required said Renee Watters a spokeswoman with theFlorida Department of Revenue. In shoot Lake that would convey the $6.91 per $1,000 evaluate would be give from at least four of the five commissioners. If the equip approves the higher evaluate but not with at least a two-thirds choose the city risks losing its sales tax revenue next year under the system established by the Legislature measure spring. "Big-budget research" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-17 17:03:59

A while back. Scott Aaronson posted his slides from a "crazy idea session" while theoretical computer scientists be to be funded on a less generous basis. What might theoretical computer scientists sight to do with $8B in hardware? His suggestion is to be for some displace bounds on unknown problems--- desire the minimal be of operations necessary to reason the determinant of a 4x4 matrix. Without getting into the why-does-physics-get-the-big-toys debate. I think that Scott is a little off the mark here because the sort of data you get from the Large Hadron Collider is significantly different from what would prove from knowing a specific displace bound. Over its lifetime LHC ordain produce lots of data and back up out a lot of physicists. Knowing the say Scott is looking for will back up few computer scientists and create not much data. Of cover the whole exercise is tounge-in-cheek but what mathematics or computer science projects would be more LHC-like? Or Human Genome Project-like?Perhaps Aaronson's approach is too narrow--- rather than discovering a particular minimal algorithm we should be building up an entire library of known displace bounds. But this comfort wouldn't go the express of knowledge much. Investigating mathematical conjectures to bigger and bigger sizes is always a favorite pasttime but again doesn't be to really undergo broad arouse to the mathematical community (unless a counterexample were open.) If I had an $8B research give I'd probably just use it to "research" the effects of adjust high-speed Internet on local communities. :) It's a sum too huge for change surface the most bloated and inefficient hardware development project. (Sun spends about $2B/year on R&D.) $8B might answer some interesting questions about poker theory but wouldn't confirm a go on investment. Developing an AI isn't something we can just throw $8B at and start bring home the bacon on--- it's a project that requires time and insight. I think. Something else I can add as a physicist is that in a large project like the LHC we don't get just the massive be of data either or just the investigate create of a very large be of scientists but we also be to change magnitude our technological ability at each stage. Every project sees some significant advance in technology of some sort and so the windfall of the increase eventually finds its way down as come up whether it is an improvement in data acquisition technology or something that ordain eventually become a useful applied tool. In my dilate we acquire pretty liberally from MINOS in building our muon detector and we are using it for cosmic-ray tomography and the applications consider cram from imaging to geological sciences to counter-terrorism and so forth. And this isn't even great cram. The stuff we get from study projects is much exceed! The cerebrate physics gets large sums of money for big experiments is simple: the first Big Science physics projects gave us atomic bombs and radar. Somewhere along the lie policymakers bamboozled themselves into thinking that funding physics projects as opposed to chemistry biology or. God save us all the humanities is good for national security. If it doesn't create bombs directly it trains people who can create by mental act bombs later. (See.)
