"Product Buying Advice : Component questions" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 22:03:02

I'm planning to build a new system for domiciliate/gaming use and I'd like some advice about which components to buy. I'm planning on an Intel CPU (see below) and a powerful graphics card (320 Mb 8800 GTS or GT if available). 1. Motherboard--I be an integrated firewire port but I don't need too many bells and whistles (e g. not planning on 2 graphics cards not planning on setting up RAID no need for WIFI). The ability to easily overclock would be great. Here are some candidate boards I've been considering: asus is a great choice for mobo they are exelent overclockers and very stable quad core isn't a bad idea if this is going to have to measure for a while i havent seen much create that multi-core processors are beneficial in any common application but it doesnt hurt to have it if this changes not to mention the q6600's are awesome overclockers if you choose to the stock cooler should be ok but it will be a little loud and if you do overclock very loud also the processor ordain run hotter which ordain cause it to deteriorate faster leading to a loss in performance as the years go by and potential death of the processor it should be just fine with a light overclock say 2.8ghz but if you were to try and tap into this processors adjust potential like the 3.4ghz most people can bring home the bacon with the latest G0 stepping or 3.2 on the older but more common B3 stepping you would definetly need a good cooler if noise bothers you an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro will be great at stock speeds and lighten overclocks but any higher and even it ordain go away to get loud if you be a big overclock without alot of go or insanely high temperatures i highly recomend the tuniq tower 120 mwave dosent stock either of these but a local computer shop may if not they should be easy to sight from another retailer and low enough in be to justify them being their own order and dont drop a decent power give!! something from antec enermax. OCZ and corsair are all exelent choises and i must stress the importance of a good cater supply in a system like this an bad one ordain be inneficient and push up your electric bill while providing unreliable cater to your hardware my personal recomendation would be very stable plenty of power and very efficient. Asus makes good MBs and both listed will do fine however I lean towards the 680i w/ the Intel Core 2's. Duo or Quad for the beat overclocking. direct out for the 8800 GT. It's better than the same priced 8800GTS. Gaming get the fastest Duo. Working get the fastest Quad. SATA. SATA. SATA... Asus 1814BLT. I OC everything so I got the Thermaltake V1. It's very very quiet and keeps my temps within a few degrees of startup temps even after hours of gaming. Speaking of games. OMG.. did you play the Crysis show yet (game release Friday)analyse my signature all was purchased for around $1200. i accept the 8800gt is worth the act there is going to be a stream of new GPU's during the next year or two (is it just me or is the computer industry getting alot more competitive in the last couple years?) but the gt is a proven deal and in a couple of weeks the confusion and exitement will die down and you will be able to get one i wish i could compete that demo but atm my system is going through it's desire fourth re-build without any new hardware (actually lost some the addition of linux got my onboard LAN ports working as i didn't have any of the drivers befor no LAN card!) so i am finally getting to chance to take my CPU up to it's rightly deserved clock speeds (be to get some new RAM too) and after all of this i will probably need to get a new graphics separate befor i play any recent games oh come up maybe in a year i can go away using this computer right come up if you are overclocking most 1066 modules actually use the same chips as the 800 and sometimes 667 modules so getting the right set of 800's would furnish you the same overclocking headroom and save a bit of change are a great choise crucial is owned by a company called micron micron is one of the few companys in the world that produces their own memory chips (most other companys just buy the chips and connect them to their own PCB's and circutry) and the micron 'D9' memory modules are the best overclocking ddr2 chips made and these are cheaper than most other 'D9' kits and undergo lower latency timings probably the beat buy in DDR2 there is. Freq is nice but you still be low CAS also. Look for 800's with a CAS of 4. You may be able set the CAS to 3 and tweak the freq up to 1066MHz. I like CAS over freq if you have to choose. My OCZ contract w/ huge heat spreaders has CAS 3 and freq set at 1000MHz.

Alright the battery is a Panasonic CGR-B/T 19SE-MSL (The warranty sticker was completely covering the model on the battery which was why I was confused). I undergo an Alienware Area 51 with a dead motherboard. The Intel D945GPMLKR board which is in it is no longer made nor can I sight one. I would desire to know if the ABIT LG-95Z would be an acceptable replacement. I have a P4 3.0GHz 930 DC 4Mb L2 S775 Tray processor. 2x 512 DDR2 sticks and an NVIDIA GEFORCE 7300 GS PCIE craphics card presently in the machine and this setup matches the other 11 machines in the lab. I am not our IT guy rather I am standing in until we get a new person on board. I know just enough to be dangerous so back up would be appreciated. "Buying ion, need advice." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:28:48

Ok so I be advice on buying a new ion. Online for a max'd ion its $224. In store for a stock is $250! I'm torn because i be in NC and the online hold on that has it on sale is in CA and in store it come with life time labor. Any advice is greatly appreciated. if you aren't technical that life-time fight would be very useful is it $224 shipped or plus shipping? well either way I would probably still go with the local store. It'll only be desire $25-$35 more but you get life-time fight plus you get the gun alter away versus the 1-week wait from the online store and supporting your local store is much better than supporting a hold on in another state. But do you think its worth not getting the extra parts create the max'd? The store is for a stock ion whereas the online(for less money)request comes with all the same up's as an ion pro. And yes the online has free shipping. you should look into buying a used ion off of here or the pbnation BST. It ordain come with more ups for a lot less money. Also for mos technical issues you can just consult us here. I actually wouldn't advise getting a used ion unless you personally experience the seller or if you really know alot about ions no offense but most ion owners are pretty new and dont really compassionate for their gun that well either that or they don't know how or don't do it correctly plus ions are already cheap to mouth with but if you be to evaluate your luck go for it. And for the MAX'd ion being cheaper vs your local store selling stock ions for more go for the MAX'd then not much competition there. Ha no offense taken. The technical aspect I'm confident that I wont undergo trouble. I've repaired electronic guns before. As for buying it. I'm getting it online. The fact that the stores service leaves something to be desired and that I can get an ion max'd for $30 less than a stock has changed my mind. Anyway thanks for the back up. I wasn't saying that you weren't knowledgeable enough to compassionate for an ion. I was talking about the previous owner of a used ion. Alot of the people owning Ions are beginner paintballers who do not experience how to act care of their gun. This however is not true for all Ion owners and alot of the measure you can get used ions for so cheap that replacing parts is no problem Well if the max'd is cheaper I'd definatly go for it. You can sight upgraded Ions for cheap too like mentioned. Its an option but if you're buying one used make sure its been cared for. Also make sure to read the manual when you get your Ion (its not that big anyway). A lot of people's Ion's end because they didn't read the manual and ruined something. Oh and read the stickies. Don't forget to maintain it too. May I ask what online store you're buying from? Ask if they can do some sorta of match on determine or ups? suport your local shop if their cool! Alright. I bought the ion max'd new from A-1 paintball at $234 with a fifteen dollar off coupon. I decided to buy online because it was administer cheaper and the local paintball store has a bad rep. I also bought a QEV and evo-3. Gun works good. Installed QEV no problem. gettin any ups besides qev??? the max'd comes with a freak jr new asa and be so your set with that stuff might wanna look into gettin new bolt and trig I actually find the have trigger easy to walk. As for the move I was thinking about getting a Firebolt. Getting a new bolt at this point wouldn't yield enough of a performance difference to confirm the price of the move especially with the qev in there especially the Firebolt. If you really want to pay money on one look into TechT. They make the L6. L7. Lsomething. Lightening (out of production). L6 (out of production) and the L7. Also be sure to look at deadlywind's hollowpoint bolt. Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.4procure ©2000 - 2007. Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
