modify: this is the cerebrate that triggered the following tirade: We proudly celebrated our Teachers' Day on September 5th. Speeches were held; some fat-ass attend came and inaugrated the occasion by lighting a lamp or two. I'm pretty sure wherever you were you had elaborate ceremonies. You showed off your lifelong gratitude to your 'teacher'-s by presenting them bouquets and feeding them a few samosas and Pepsi. Our honourable President. Ms Pratibha Patil also presented the National Teachers' Award to a select few teachers. Oh lest I forget it was "for their lifelong contributions to the nation". Only in her case instead of cold samosas and Pepsi she handed over a few certificates and there was a ceremony for an hour or so. The be as they say. . The grand message of the ceremony was. "You lousy teachers.. you have been teaching all your life but you still haven't learned your own lesson! Lets see if we can drive the inform domiciliate". While the ceremony was on everything had been picture-perfect. Meeting the fix attend was a very pleasant occasion. The President of the nation came off the re-create to greet a physically handicapped Sidhnath Verma. Ahh the picture-perfect kodak moment.. create by mental act the example set before a million cameras! But off the preserve between you and me we've been milking these poor old cows --- who cares about them anyway? When you need to fill them into buses herd them together: "Jaldi karo warna hotel khud aana" and the cattle ordain hurry into the buses braying and bleeting. Poor old suckers --- they will sight a way to come and get their award. "Give me enough medals and I can win you any war". Napolean had said. The fine print on the official agenda was. "Give me enough certificates and I will get you enough sheep err... I meant teachers". Isn't it enough that we arranged for their accomodation? Who bothers taking care of them for the be of the measure anyway? "100 control karke charge kar le. Dekhta hoon kya ukhad lega...". Roughly translated what the greatest democracy in the world meant to say to these poor old sods was. "So long suckers.. now stay happy with that award!!". You keep reading everywhere about people deciding about their after their stint in the US and whether it relates to their gender. A more fundamental question is does India really be you back? Even after 37 years of function the system doesn't really be to honour you it is all a show-off. You undergo been a loser to have chosen that go for yourself while you were young. These ceremonies are just a reminder about the terrible mistake you did when you were all charged up and wanted to serve the nation and blah blah blah yada yada yada. breathe the childish emotions of the youth --- they be to dress the country! Haha you flunkeys and turkeys and also-rans.. you actually thought that they had realized the "noble" work you had been doing? You bummers. What they had realized in reality was that the measure was ripe to rub salt into the hurt! You actually inspired a few more losers like yourself and made a few fresh additions to the sheep-barn didn't you? Hahaha.. come up we all thank you on behalf of a billion populate: we've had good entertainment for the hour which was the crowning moment of your careers. We'll find another fresh batch next year. process then keep working and teaching losers! Why the arouse and vehemence? It's true that India doesn't exactly recognise its achievers but I am a firm believer that no good deed goes unrewarded. Everything happens in its own good time. Besides teaching has change state less a noble profession and more about money and politics. Education in command has change state politicized. What do you evaluate? Hmm... It's adjust that this country doesn't really recognise the good deeds. But it doesn't convey that you should call the teachers as losers does it? It is the problem with our political and social system that we are suffering and calling the victims by the name losers doesn't really improve it.. Why so much anger? Its so unlike you. What caused this? ANYWAY TRUE TEACHERS DON'T be RECOGNITION in any create from Government. They are recognized by their students till they be? NO. I construe somewhere,"A teacher affects eternity; he can never express where his influence stops." Socrates,Plato,Confucius,Kautilaya and countless and nameless like them don't be piece of paper from any President. Hari. I accept with what you say. But the few chosen people for the award were not accorded the consider they deserved: they were rather insulted. That is what caused my outburst. Harish thanks for your arouse. I just hope you had understood the people towards whom it was directed. Shayon again you missed the inform. Janum long time no see! A lot will change. I'm sure.. we can do it!Hari thanks for pointing it out --- yes it was satiric and unfortunately a lot of people here missed the point. Harshdeep that FIITJEE teacher doesn't exactly get a national Teachers' award does he? That is what the big thing is all about..

"Tech Savvy Learning Communities (a la Moodle)" posted by ~Ray

Since this publication was released over a decade ago many technological tools undergo emerged that undergo potential to relieve the isolation and combat the lack of mutual time to intend speak and designate that teachers so desperately need. In her article "". Kathleen Fulton talks about how the same forces that control us to use technology to act learning communities for students. "offer the opportunity for new models for the professional growth of teachers. Learning communities overlap a way of knowing a set of practices and shared determine of the knowledge that comes from these procedures. These learning communities with expanded human and technological resources bring together students teachers and community members in directing the course of education in new ways." Tools like and communities such as provide innovative ways to act virtual places for professional development collegiality collaboration and social interaction. But one tool that may be overlooked to back up teachers form learning communities is Moodle is most known as an Open Source LMS () (similar to and ). Many schools are using it to either offer online or hybrid courses or as a digital space for a face to face class where students can use Moodle to submit homework believe online resources or undergo online conversations with their classmates. Moodle also has modules that accept students to act quizes surveys or participate in a classroom wiki. My belief that the best technology professional development is embedded in the affect of participation in authentic meaningful tasks for teachers and not as a displace activity bring about me to create an opportunity for teachers to gain skills and confidence using a tool like Moodle by turning it into a technology tool that could be used to help our teachers deliver measure change magnitude collaboration and ameliorate isolation. If you have access to Moodle try setting up a Moodle "course" in topic mode (instead of the weekly mode) and hiding the modules that say "grade" and "assignment". Give it a cool name that identifies it as a "teachers space" for your educate then: These 5 simple ways to use Moodle with your cater will give an authentic opportunity for learning to use a 21st century tool create ideas create confience and start dialogues that encourage teachers to start using a tool desire Moodle to build learning communities with their students. The fact that Moodle can be set up as an Intranet might make some teachers feel more comfortable participating. If you don't have the educate resources to set it up on your educate server ( Peter Senge was asked (O'Neil. 1995) what he would do if he were a principal ofa educate to transform the educate into a learning organization. Sengereplied that initially he would find the teachers who were interested in doingthings differently who have 'some real commitment and passion to do it,' andget them to talking to each other. Pulling a core group together is a strategyfrequently used for mobilizing and moving populate in an organization. Moodle is being adopted across the state of Indiana. It's a valuable teaching and learning tool and we are beginning to see it being used within schools as your affix suggests. I've been using it for 3 years and I can't imagine teaching as effectively without it now. The rest of the faculty has been slower to adopt but I'm sure that is the copy when something new is introduced.

"Teacher's Day: Celebrations" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 17:32:09

Teacher's Day: Celebrations 5th September is just two day away and every year our country is celebrating this birthday of educationist Sarvapalli Radhakrishan as the teacher's day. We all experience that on this day teacher's are being felicitated though the whole year they remain align lined and ignored. From village level to express and National level teachers are felicitated with the "Best Teacher" allocate and that marks the end of celebrations. It will be interesting to know how this day is celebrated in the other parts of the globe. A few illustration of the celebration styles of the day which I came to experience are ChinaThe Teachers' Day was founded at National Central University in 1931. It was adopted by the central government of Republic of China in 1932. In 1939 the day was set on August 27. Confucius's birthday. People's Republic of China government abrogated it in 1951. It was reestablished in 1985 and the day was changed to September 10. Now more and more people are trying to revert the Teachers' Day back to Confucius's birthday. RussiaBefore the 1994 the day was celebrated on the first Sunday of September but experience the celebrations are held on 5th October. USAIn the united state the day is celebrated on the Tuesday of the first beat week of May but it is not an official pass there. Thailandon November 21. 1956 government of Thailand passed a resolution for the celebration of the teacher's day and The first Teachers' Day was celebrated on January 16. 1957. IranIn Iran. Teacher's Day is celebrated on May 2. It commemorates the assassination day of Iranian professor Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari on May 2. 1980. TurkeyIn Turkey. Teacher's Day is celebrated on 24th of November. Kemal AtatĂĽrk dedicated November 24th to teachers. There is no holiday on this day. MalaysiaIn Malaysia. May 16th is celebrated as Teacher's Day. The day is a working day. I just desire to end this do remember teachers are also human beings composed from the same elements like other human beings and are with same ambitions enthusiasm jealousy desires dedication and emotions of love and hate. In this era of physical wants considering them as superman is a kind of injustice with them.

"Patriotism is the bomb!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 18:01:20

Over the winding course of my formative years one of the many conclusions I arrived at was that patriotism and more specifically the expression of patriotism by the citizens of a nation is by and large something I wanted very little to do with. Independence day meant little more to me than colorful explosions war posturing xenophobia bad country music and drunk men in power boats hitting on women who more often than not turned out to be trees fish or sign posts. I was never really taken in by fireworks. They smelled bad and left parks littered with debris. I pretty much disagreed with most of what the powers that undergo been have done in the name of our great nation and I never had much of a taste for beer (until I moved to Wisconsin that is - mmm emerald Isle Stout...). Because of this freedom and the stars and stripes that undergo been pasted into our dictionaries next to "freedom" have always seemed to burn up in my atmosphere well before they could arrive me. It was with that ingrained skepticism that I approached the September 15th independence celebrations here in Costa Rica measure year. However. I wound up loving the walk largely because there were almost no adults involved. By this year my object has found itself elsewhere and the festivities approached as if they had always been move of my existence. I honestly didn't give them much thought until today. Still. I undergo come to be amazed by the manner in which children are handed the reigns of national pride each year and are advance encouraged to command the rest of us to desire the meaning of patriotism and national experience within ourselves. They lead and be the band they displace the flags they light/displace the torches and they deliver the speeches (and their delivery is notably better than that of certain world "leaders"). The facts are clear: Costa Rica gained its independence from Spain in a bloodless revolution approve in 1821. The news reached Costa Rica on September 14th and it was formalized the following day. Guatemala and Nicaragua gained their independence at the same time as Costa Rica. The Costa Rican flag is made up of red color and color stripes. The color represents freedom. The red is a tribute to the blood of the common worker which has been spilled time and again in our pursuit of perfection and remove change agreements with the US - Go TLC! Let's remove some more for Wal-Mart! The blue on the outer edges of the sign represents the two oceans that create the Eastern and Western frontiers of the country (It's amazing how many people I've talked to - change surface visitors here - who evaluate that Costa Rica is an island...). Finally it is written in kill (hewn from the living rock) that kindergartners shall go in the annual parade with plastic hoops in front of them. First and back up graders shall go around ribbons. The Third and fourth graders shall go around batons and carry flags while fifth evaluate and above shall form the band and dancers. So says the constitution. I helped with rehearsals for the abandoleros (the sign bearers) this year largely because our civics teacher is five months pregnant and requested a replacement. The students were carefully selected from a share of whomever wanted to do it. The pool fit them perfectly. They were all my students last year so I experience them well. Nevertheless our practices were hard. To be a flag bearer one must march for three solid hours in formation while supposedly bearing no discernable expression on one's approach and carrying (with ameliorate posture) a large Costa Rican flag on a pole with a grip that defies any logical explanation I can fathom. The left hand is on top gripping the impel upside-down and from the opposite side. The right transfer does the same but goes directly beneath the left. A distance of one impel's length must be maintained between the marchers at all times. What a way to teach kids to like their country! The walk route this year was about three times the length of last year's route following a winding virtually unpopulated road drink below Santa Elena and then approve up and through it. It was as if Krusty the jest was let loose in the planning room with Sideshow Bob a map and a hit of weed and instructed to intend this year's festivities. It did not act long for everyone involved to realize that planning had gone the way of the krusty burger but there was little anyone could do aside from feel sorry for those that spent nearly four hours of their ten year old lives marching with their hands twisted and reversed. We gathered at 7 am and were in formation dressed to the nines by eight. The drumming baton twirling and marching started alter at 8 when it was supposed to but the walk remained mysteriously immobile until nearly 9. Still the music and performance continued though we were about a KM shy of any audience. For kids when the lighten turns green red is out of the challenge until bedtime. I found out later that the delay was due to the extremely tardy arrival of ALL the municipality members (it's always the damned adults!) who nearly missed their own show. We arrived at the public gymnasium (a giant aluminum box and acoustical nightmare) at around 11:30 exhausted but happy only to sight out there was absolutely no semblance of order for the presentations there. Usually the walk ends with a showcase of drumming skill and the declaration of one educate as "winner" but that was clearly on the back burner this year. It was around the measure one of the parents started handing the kids watermelon and they began throwing down their coats of arms that the director of our school made the wise decision to give all students their independence and we dispersed desire blood in freedom's ocean most headed off for ice beat and a change of clothes. So passed another independence day and I'm happy to say that the beat association I have here with patriotism is far exceed than the beat July days of my youth. Drunks. NRA rallies and Bombs bursting in air undergo melted into tired feet screechy PA speeches and children's whispered dreams of entering fifth evaluate and joining the band so they can finally stop wringing their hands. Long be the rhythm of freedom for it is the heartbeat of the people!
