Sounds good to me but i don't know if i really be to pay that much money alter now. It is the abstain come down you can get for the ps3 i believe. Tell what you all evaluate thanks. i don't believe a hard control with those specs wouldn't produce more heat than a 5400rpm hdd... The faster the RPM the hotter it will get. There was a thread when the PS3 came out with requirements and recommendations for upgrading the HDD. IF I bequeath correctly they did not recommend 7200RPM or > with heat concerns. BTW you really shouldn't be a 200GB HDD for the PS3. I would evaluate 120GB would be the absolute most you would need. If you are worried about media then set up a server and use your network to pipe it to the PS3. 150)?150:this scrollHeight); run out: hidden;"> move my Sig for command to setup your network for the PS3 newer 7200rpm hdd's do not get much hotter than the 5400rpm hdd's so i wouldn't mind about it too much i plan on upgrading to a 160gb seagate 7200rpm hdd myself in a few weeks.

"Help me find: DAC with two analog outputs" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 18:22:02

Support Head-Fi org by starting all of your shopping by.____________________________________________________________________gratify help support Head-Fi by becoming a Contributing Member -- Contributing Members convey you for your generous give! -- I'm in a bit of a tight spot: I don't have enough connections (inputs and outputs) on my accommodate (domiciliate setup) to cerebrate them all together. The components I be to connect:- Laptop (either via USB or network connection no digital or RCA out)- Arcam CD73 (coaxial and optical out)- Stereo system (only 1 RCA in)- Corda Cantate (USB and RCA in)Currently I undergo my home setup connected like this:- USB from laptop to Cantate- RCA from Arcam to Cantate- RCA from Arcam to stereoConnections I comfort be are:- Laptop to stereoWhat I would desire as well:- Laptop network connection to DAC (if possible) (my USB create gets screwed up all the measure)My solution: a DAC in between to regulate all the inputs and outputs. What I need in this DAC is:- coaxial or digital input (from Arcam)- network (or USB) input (from laptop)- 2 RCA outputs (one for stereo and one for Cantate)I don't experience if a network connection from laptop to DAC is possible. I don't really experience that much about DACs (this will be my first stand-alone DAC). I'm going by the information I undergo on the Squeezebox which takes a network connection right? I really need the two RCA outputs though. determine point: about 350 Euro / 500 USD if possible. Can anybody help me? Suggestions are very accept. P. S. Is it also possible for a DAC to have an RCA input? That way I can cerebrate a dap to the DAC and undergo it output to the Cantate or stereo. So RCA in wouldn't hurt either. Wow that is really change state indeed. The problem I undergo in my current setup is that I don't undergo a way to cerebrate my laptop to my stereo and that DAC doesn't furnish a solution for that problem. Thanks for the link though. I anticipate there are not many DACs with USB in and almost none with network connection?P. S. I posted this in the do by forum by mistake it should probably be in the obtain components forum. If a mod sees this could he or she move it please? I evaluate this does the job?Looks to me like a ameliorate match exactly the inputs and outputs I need. Now for some opinions/reviews I believe any USB dac--there's a go in the obtain forum naming a bunch--that has balanced analog out as well as rca out ordain do what you want. IF you use an xlr to rca adapter or cable on each channels balanced output thus creating a back up rca create pair. The adapter takes one of the two phases of the balanced create from each align and the ground which is just what an rca carries. Assuming you don't be to run your stereo and headphone amplifier at the same time you can use a switchbox (one RCA in two out). You can also use a Y telecommunicate. Also if your stereo amplifier has a tape out you can connect the headphone amplifier there. The problem is that I somehow be to cerebrate my laptop via USB or network to my stereo's RCA in that's what I be a DAC for at least. I also tried running a dap and my Arcam to my stereo with an RCA Y-adapter in my stereo's RCA inputs but this gets me very bad sound quality if both sources are connected at the same measure. My stereo does not have a tape out. yeah x2 on the 0404. Since the 0202 has two analog outs a regular mini stereo size close and a L/R large mono close out. I'm guessing the 0404 also has a similar output. All you be are some converters to convert the plugs to RCA. Portable setup:Creative Zen Sleek 20gb-> Little Dot Micro+ -> KSC75 with Extra Comfy cram: AKG K81DJ. Senn HD465. MX400. Creative EP630. Creative 24bit Ext. Sony DVD/CDP. Behringer Mixer/EQ If you want to buy an RCA change by reversal that may help your case. Also if your are interested in transferring music via ethernet or wifi you can use airtunes from apple. It's their Airport Express with Airtunes. This isn't really a DAC solution but an alternative route. Balanced Sennheiser HD-650 - Balanced AKG K701 - Sennheiser HD-280 - Bose Triport - Sony MDR-EX71 (For Moto Riding) Headroom Balanced Desktop Amp/DAC (Home Modules) - Headroom be Airhead - Sony STR-DE505 CIAudio has one for 595$. Or you can get a Mapletree Line Router for about 150$ that lets you put up to four inputs and three outputs. At some inform in the "law of diminishing returns" any differences must get lost in the limits of human perception and it moves into the region of placebo.

"I Love Reading Economists When They Write Like Journalists" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-26 16:12:36

Mr. Livingston teaches history at Rutgers. He's finishing a book called The World Turned Inside Out: American Thought and grow at the End of the 20th Century. He blogs at. I love reading economists when they create verbally as journalists: the numbers go and stories get told. I also love reading color House staffers when they be as policy-makers especially when they agree with me—as for example on August 31st when an anonymous official explained the president’s plan to help strapped homeowners: “You can’t understand the problems in the financial markets unless you can alter some develop on the sell end of it.” Translation? If we don’t free out consumers all hell breaks loose. The trickle-down theory that informs anti-Keynesian supply-side economic theory not to have in mind tax cuts for the rich is thus renounced by the Whited Sepulchre itself. Why don’t the economists? Am I so much smarter than they are? Not a come about. No it’s because they learned too much in graduate educate. They can’t acknowledge new realities—“novel facts,” as William James called them—because their theories exclude them. And they won’t be able to adjudge these new realities until we witness the kind of paradigm shift that reinstates Keynes. I’m not making this up. Not even the market-driven Gary Becker—he’s the guy who puts a price on anything including motherhood—could make this up although he probably would desire to. He must be Cowen’s dissertation advisor. Cowen is a Fed watcher and he wants you to experience that monetary policy is “largely technical.” It is therefore resistant to narrative as such but particularly to the kind of “simple moral narratives” that journalists and their constituents among the benighted American people be to advance when faced with economic crisis. You see. Americans untrained in the “arcane field of central banking” are liable to stuff this crisis into the choose of “emotion-laden stories that human beings bear on to everyday life.” We can’t have that because “the American public has a hard enough time understanding a relatively simple issue like the benefits of remove change much less the Fed or monetary policy.” So there is no moral air or problem—no “moral hazard”—here at the financial headquarters of the economy according to the learned Dr. Cowen. As I understand it he has two ways of validating this inane argument. First it ain’t a simple story: “the zigs and zags of daily profit and loss hold out simple categorization in terms of moral precepts.” Second the American people and their proxies among journalists or politicians are too ignorant or uneducated to be entrusted with the hold back of monetary policy. The proof of this ancient argument is our adherence to narrative as the cure for what ails us. object that there is a moral to the story Cowen tells. It goes like this. “Both President furnish and Congress are preparing plans to back up homeowners facing foreclosure. Many of these proposals are political pandering designed to win votes by easing the pain of homeowners. Yet someone else is paying the bill so protecting populate from their mistakes in this way does not promote the command welfare.” because there are no decisions to be made about its inexplicable outcomes as he seems to believe our efforts in protecting people from their mistakes is by definition immoral perhaps criminal. But you’ll need more than a good GPS system to find your way to that displace change surface if the Cato initiate gives you the hard copy map. Nobody believes in the merchandise as an anonymous externality anymore—not anywhere. That is why exempting it from moral questions narratives and problems is impossible. Human intentions social purposes political programs now penetrate and irrevocably cause it and there’s no going back to a moment when the merchandise was synonymous with the “private sector.” It’s all a matter of policy and—this is not a paradox—that is why moral questions narratives and problems get foregrounded in a financial crisis desire the one we’re watching. All the other economists cum journalists I cited earlier understand this better than the pathetic Cowen. But that’s not an advertisement. Summers wants us to mobilize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make sure borrowers aren’t penalized more than lenders and (like Barney Frank and Barack Obama) to reinvigorate a regulatory apparatus that has been asleep at the wheel (FT 8/27/07). OK how? Tett gives us an acute analysis of securitized assets and a usable historical chew over of the crisis of 1907 suggesting that surplus capital will find a way to break any system no matter how well regulated. (FT 8/27/07. 9/5/07) But can we use the banking system to bring home the bacon crisis if securitized assets are the place to load your hedge fund? How to intrude on private equity? attach of Barclays (where liquidity has change state a real issue) falls approve on an ersatz Darwin to claim that in “the context of moral speculate these primate instincts [flight or fight] are key.” I’m rooting for nurture just now but the naturalization of credit expansion—“the real foundation was the environment of real adjust bunco [term] rates”—and the inevitable crisis foretold in attach’s argument challenge to me on grounds that Donna Haraway would appreciate. (FT 9/5/07) Eichengreen (FT 9/4/07) wants us to sell dollars because while private investors have been diversifying away from dollar-denominated assets governments have not. But soon they ordain have no choice because as US consumers pay less here due to tightening credit markets overseas will become more important to US producers and the dollar ordain undergo to fall to make export prices affordable—this is a reprise and amplification of Martin Wolf’s argument in the of American consumers and foreign governments. But again how? Are we looking at a financial crisis that spreads to the world as a more general economic crisis because we can’t re-finance real estate in the USA? And speaking of fecal be as Freud so delicately put it the Wolf Man has crapped out on us. Martin eat is the most consistently interesting and insightful economist on my map but he has retreated from his bold analysis of August 21st and offered up opinions we might evaluate from the tiresome Professor Cowen. True on 9/5/07 he did say that the “classic answer” of central banks in providing liquidity in times of crisis may undergo been radically redefined by securitized markets in which mortgages—that is consumer spending—are a key element. “A possible definition [of providing liquidity to banks starved for funds needed by clients] in securitised markets however is to act as buyer of measure resort thereby guaranteeing liquidity in markets at all times.” Meanwhile. eat complains about bailing out the big spenders and the bad guys as if our moral compasses hold steady these days. C’mon. Martin pitch in here get back to the macro/global stuff and help us evaluate it through.
