Payday lenders association to demand stores to advertise high interest rates
Community Financial Services Association of America which represents 60 percent of payday lenders nationwide said it ordain demand all of its members to display their fees and annual percentage rates on oversized posters in all stores and on company Web sites.
The call loan and cash go industry has been under blast in recent years for selling short-term loans at high interest rates to mostly low-income customers and some states have recommended regulatory oversight while some consumers have threatened class-action lawsuits.
"Consumers have a alter to know all of the fees associated with a financial product so they can alter informed financial decisions," said CFSA President Darrin Andersen. "CFSA's new policy ensures that customers know in simple terms exactly what the fees are before they enter into any transaction."
CFSA members must display the fees and annual percentage rates for at least five different give increments on posters.
