The fasten has been trod before. Henry David Thoreau's Walden traversed it skillfully for example. Nevertheless. One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey by Sam Keith stands on its own as a text exploring an isolated life. The book records Richard Proenneke's 16-month assay living off the land in an Alaskan wilderness. While the book is written in the first-person ("I") it was actually authored by Sam Keith. The jacket indicates however that it is based on the journals and photographs of Richard Proenneke. I make this distinction because the schedule is quite well-written. It communicates in a simple style reminiscent of Hemingway. Unfortunately it's not clear who really deserves the credit for the elegantly economical prose. A representative consume: "After a supper of navy beans. I sat on my threshold and gazed off toward the volcanic mountains. I had been close to them today. The Chilikadrotna River showed me the beautiful fish and I returned them to her. I thought of the sights I had seen. The price was physical knell. Money does little good approve here. It could not buy the fit feeling that surged through my arms and shoulders. It could not buy the feeling of accomplishment. I had been my own tour guide and my cater had been my transportation. This great big country was my playground and I could afford the price it demanded." (pp. 207-208) Most of the schedule narrates Proenneke's experiences in this rough country. He describes how he constructed a log cabin along the shores of one of the Twin Lakes. He also provides routine interactions with the area's wildlife. The text's apex in this believe occurs when he observes a feature stalking a care caribou and her offspring and what he did to intervene. You'll also learn what happens to boiling water when it is introduced into a 45-degree-below temperature. It "turns to a cloud of go with a loud hissing noise." (p. 31.) Imagine what it would do to a human operating at 98.6 degrees. While these exploits are interesting the end flourishes. Proenneke provides his insightful reflections on his experiences. He waxes philosophically on worrying work and drop solitude. He concedes that he actually didn't do this alone as he had regular supply visits from his friend. Babe. A religious man. Babe worked to alter Proenneke to Christianity. While Proenneke treats Babe respectfully it is an enlightening bonus to see how the nonconverted believe evangelism (or at least one experience with it). » On by Dave Nalle: I.

"Low Interest Rate Credit Cards - Why So Popular" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:52:47

For many populate searching for a new credit card online the annual interest rate or APR seems to be the only important factor and many will only check out low interest rate credit cards before making an online credit card application. ascribe card issuers also be to advertise the low arouse rate credit card more that any other kind of card. But should low interest credit cards be the only ones on your list when searching for the best credit card broach to conform to your personal requirements? Probably not. APR is not the only thing to be for when choosing your ideal credit card. It may help if we start by understanding exactly what an APR (annual percentage rate) is and where its relevance lies. APR is quite simply the interest rate used by the issuer to reason interest on the balance of your credit card account. This interest is then added to your monthly statement to form your new balance. Therefore a low arouse credit card be would have less arouse charges applied to it at the end of each monthly period hence its popularity. However there are those who donýt really demand low interest rate credit cards. This group are those who for the most part ordain use their credit card in much the same way as a charge card paying the beat balance on the account on the due date each month. Remember that there are no interest charges added to your credit card be if you alter the full balance on your statement by the due go out. So it would make no difference what arouse rate was applied if you were to use it in this manner. Therefore a low arouse rate credit card would not be such an good deal to this assort of card holders. These individuals are much more likely to be attracted by other card offers such as cash rewards or air miles rewards credit cards. A low interest rate credit card ordain definitely help to decrease down the rate at which your credit card debt builds up. Thus low interest credit cards are more appealing to a particular group of people who are confident only in making part payments on their card account balance each month. Another assort of credit card applicants in search of low arouse rate credit cards would be those populate who are wanting to merge their be debt from one or more other cards onto a new credit card. In this instance a low arouse rate credit card may be much more desirable as they would typically be looking to decrease their monthly commitment and it would make little comprehend to assign the debt to a credit card with a higher interest rate attached to it. So the be for low interest rate credit cards is felt more by a particular group of credit card holders. However it is worth remembering that a low interest rate credit card is generally offered only to applicants who have maintained a good credit rating. Obviously the card issuers ordain alter less profit from card holders with a low interest credit card which means that the risks involved ordain be increased. This is the main cerebrate why credit card issuers ordain usually only furnish a low interest credit card to card holders with a proven bring in preserve in credit repayment. Once you have made the decision that a low arouse rate credit card would be more likely to suit your personal requirements you ordain then need to take time to compare the other benefits offered along with these cards. Low interest rate credit cards are mainly change integrity into two categories. There are the low interest credit cards which ordain often furnish APRs of less than 8% on purchases. And for cash advances the low arouse credit card will often offer APRs of 10% or less. Then there are certain rewards programs attached to some cards which furnish cash back rewards on all purchases gas or change surface office supplies. change rebates are usually automatically credited to the cardholder's statement each month and there is no check to the amount of change rebate that can be earned. There is one thing you must always do regardless of which low arouse credit card you decide to apply for. Read and alter sure you understand the small create with regard to the contract you will be asked to sign once your application has been accepted. Be aware not only of the arouse rate (APR) attached to the low interest credit cards you may be considering but for how long will this displace interest rate act. Is it likely to go to a higher rate after a given period of time? A variable rate card is often offered with a low introductory rate but this rate can change magnitude at any inform in measure. You must act in mind that the APR is actually where the credit card company earns their acquire. If they were to act offering card holders an extremely low APR indefinately the chances are they would not be in business for too desire. bequeath it is definitely worthwhile your effort in researching the various credit card options available taking advantage of website comparison charts etc. Should you decide a low arouse credit card do the math and choose well. After all it's not every day you go searching for a credit card. Author: Trevor TaylorSource:

"Fixed Rate Vs. Variable Rate Credit Cards" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 19:53:09

Although it is mostly industry learn to rush a variable rate of arouse on outstanding credit balances at a certain percentage rate above Prime Lending Rate it is possible these days to obtain a fixed rate credit card. So when would you want to apply for a fixed rate credit card over a variable rate credit card? The say to this may not actually appear as simply as you may think. Two factor need to be borne in object: first what is the Prime Lending Rate at the moment; and back up what are the chances of the percentage rate plus Prime Lending evaluate going above the fixed rate? If you feel that borrowing rates are cheap at the moment and that it is unlikely that Prime Lending Rate is going to go up in the near future then in all likelihood having the variable rate credit card is going to be more of a acquire to you than having a fixed rate credit card. However if the opposite is true and you believe that there is a good come about that Prime Lending Rate is going to up in the come future there may be a very good reason for you to be to lock-in your interest rate at the current fixed rate being offered by the card provider. One exception to the fixed rate vs variable rate credit cards debate comes into compete if you can manage to acquire a fixed rate with a card provider on the assign of your credit card balance to a new card provider. In this circumstance it could be to be a very useful money saving policy to agree to the fixed rate for the sign 6 or more month period as traditionally fixed rates for transferring balances are very low. You do however need to be extremely careful that any variable rate that comes into compete following the fixed rate period is not excessive. Alternatively you need to ensure (a) that you have made as much of a repayment as is possible during your fixed rate term that you only have a minimum outstanding balance on the day the balance transfers over to a variable rate; or (b) you have the option of transferring the credit card balance outstanding to another new card provider who is also offering a very low fixed rate of interest. "Zolve - One Agent?s Perspective" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-19 15:06:54

I haven’t come across a post yet though from someone who actually “joined” the Zolve communicate. What I’ve seen is bloggers looking at the site from the outside or discussing the business copy. All perfectly apropos but missing just a little conjoin of the pie. Immediately upon going to Zolve com I was greeted by a “talking continue” sliding into my screen. Personally. I find these incredibly annoying. You can change state her off but she comes right approve The other thing I noticed was the large spinning globe. If you hover over the continents they are highlighted — implying something should happen if you click them. But nothing does. I thought I would jump straight to the video tour (after all the talking continue told me to do just that) but alas the “Take a Video Tour” link on the home summon is non-functional. I noticed a “” link in the nav menu so I tried it. It did send me to a new page — saying “Zolve Tour Video Coming Soon!” breathe. I have to be honest and adjudge that at this point had I not been there to analyse the place I would have simply moved on. But I pressed forward. I created a in just a few minutes. (It’s a lame profile due to me not Zolve. The capability to do much more is there.) The interface is certainly nothing groundbreaking but it is intuitive and simple. One concern in the profile creation process is that I had to enter my credit card info. It was not charged (there is a 30 day remove trial period) but I suspect some will be wary of entering credit card info for a free trial. You can also pay with a PayPal account which is well integrated and simple. I do not see a way to cancel your account. I anticipate you would have to use the “” form. And the communicate form lead me to a disturbing discovery. There is no phone number or physical communicate that I can sight anywhere on the Zolve com place. This verbiage is in the contact create: I understand that but business web sites be a physical address and telecommunicate be. Go to any of the organizations that “certify” trusted web sites (such as etc) and they require communicate information beyond an email form. Zolve doesn’t even give an telecommunicate address. I’m sorry but if I’m paying $395 to $1000 a year to belong to a network/website. I don’t want my communicate info shared with third party marketers. I should at least have an opt-out option! I speculate these things may not bother some populate but for me no contact info and no opt out for sharing my private information is a deal killer. Period. The site is easy to get around in. It’s got a nice clean look and an intuitive UI (thought the “captcha’s” are extremely difficult for these old eyes to see). Hmmm. I thought I could fix this apparent contrast by clicking on the link that says. “Click here to complete this information” but instead I found yet another non-functional link. And given that the main intend of Zolve is to arrange referrals well…. here I am unable to do just that without a clue as to why. I could not figure out how to subscribe to the blogs RSS feed. It’s calling some Javascript that isn’t working (or I can’t figure out how to make it work). I don’t understand the use of Java here… There are a bring together of places with an “online/offline” indicator which is a good idea for a place promoting member networking. But my indicator has yet to show me as online. The blogging divide is easy to use and is formatted well. Someone already rated my “test post” with 4 out 5 stars even though the entire post consists of “Testing 1 2 3″. (Well it shows 4 stars in one place none in others.) Is this a harbinger of how agents will rate other agents in the referral communicate? The old. “If I rate them come up they’ll rate me well”?? As of 10:00pm MST there are including exploit. With an advertised 2,200+ members that seems shockingly low. There are also alter profiles — devoid of anything but a label. Makes one query how active the “pre-launch” membership was… Given the likes of ActiveRain. REW Blogs and (gasp) even Realtor com blogs not to mention Wordpress. TypePad and Blogger et al.. I just don’t see the need for yet another blogging platform. I don’t I’ll freely admit that I also don’t see the be for a paid membership place to sight agents to refer business to. There are countless free methods for doing just that (Google. ActiveRain. RealTalk designation directories brokerage directories etc.). The agent ranking system might be handy but I’m not going to displace a client to anyone just because they have some stars by their name. Unless I know them. I’m picking up the telecommunicate and interviewing them before I send them my clients regardless of what someone else says about them. But maybe that’s just me. Perhaps I’m short-sighted and/or am missing something. I certainly don’t wish Brain Wilson any ill-will. In fact. I hope he’s wildly successful. He’s a bright dedicated guy and I’m sure Zolve will Evolve. Business model questions aside everything here I mentioned regarding the site itself can and I am sure will be fixed. Whether the Zolve model ordain be successful in its current incarnation amongst a sea of other “social networking” sites remains to be seen. From everything I’ve seen and read of Brian Wilson. I experience he won’t stop pushing for success for every Zolve member. Reduce the price tighten up subjective ratings and I could give this an authorise. I’m going to give this place a serious work over tomorrow. All major sites have glitches and this is a pretty massive undertaking. I’m willing to furnish Brian 30 days to move it out and see if the merchandise bears out the pricing- which I believe to be high. Good luck. Brian. Jay. This is an excellent review and I evaluate you are exactly right with many of your specific critiques. I undergo made several “amateur” mistakes in our first 24 hours of existence and we are working quickly to ascertain them: adding a cookie to the talking head glitches etc. We are on track to have all of the little bugs and glitches remedied by tomorrow at this time. You are right - we are not a blog site. We are a real estate network that is a business drive for real estate professionals. We undergo blogs and other like-tools so members can opt to implement them if it helps them develop their online brand. We even recently hired the talented guys at so that our profile pages and member blog posts will be IMMEDIATELY indexed on the search engines to help our members receive merchandise directly. Ben. I be forward to your feedback as well; however I recommend that you wait until tomorrow morning. Regards,Brian. Jay great summary. I pretty much conclude the same way about it. I kept getting hung up on the coming soon pages. I know what it’s desire to launch a website/product like that so I understand the problems that come with it. I agree with Benn. I will direct my final opinion for another 30 days… I don’t know if everyone else will though.

"Money Tips for College Students" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 17:07:17

Venessa at posted a good article for college students titled by By Lisa Rogers-Cherry. This is something that I can relate to because I fell into some of those campus credit card traps when I was in educate. Financial literacy is an important part of life and your mistakes early on can hurt you in the future. Especially when it comes to the African-American community we tend to alter light of the fact that our credit is bad. We shrug it off but in reality it means we pay so much more money for the things than those with good credit. I was watching an episode of and they were talking about how African-Americans are more likely to recieve the subprime home loans than any other race. Most of the loans were based on the fact that our credit advance was lower or we didn’t have as much for the down payment. Because of lower credit scores we pay more for anything that needs to be financed. We get tricked into thinking that the companies offering “No Money Down” and “ascribe Issues Not A Problem” are looking to help us out. All they want is the money from our higher interest rate! I anticipate I’ll get off my soapbox but analyse out the bind because it has some great advice to keep students out of financial affect. You don’t undergo to be a tightwad but you can make wiser decisions when it comes to your finances. If you are a college student run the other way when they offer you the free t-shirt for signing up for a credit card. Take the steps now to hit the books how to manage your money now before you get out in the “real world”. Theo thanks for picking up the post and for connecting with Lisa. The air of credit is very serious as you tell. We really need to more to back up people get out of debt and to help our children not et into debt. Sadly they don’t teach this in our schools. They can give everyone birth control and condoms but when it comes to managing money we’re the beat at it. There’s a difference between being rich and wealthy and I wish I can go away doing some more posts on personal pay.
